Can Melonex Be Given to Cats? Read This First

Quick answer

Can Melonex be given to cats? No. The Melonex capsules on this site are a supplement made for adults, and they are not tested in cats. The meloxicam drug sold under the same name has strict limits for cats, and repeated doses can be fatal. Call your vet before giving a cat anything.

Can cats take Melonex capsules?

No. Melonex capsules are a dietary supplement for adult people, and no study of them in cats exists. The label asks children, pregnant readers and people with conditions to see a physician, and it says nothing about animals.

Human medicines and supplements are a known source of pet poisonings (ASPCA, top pet poisons). Keep the bottle shut and out of reach, as the label says.

What about the meloxicam sold as Melonex for pets?

Meloxicam is a veterinary NSAID that FDA has approved for dogs. For cats, it is approved only as a one-time injection around surgery. Long-term NSAID use in cats has no approval, and repeated meloxicam doses can cause kidney failure and death in cats (FDA, pain relievers for pets).

We give no dose for any animal. A vet decides whether a cat gets any drug, and which one.

Do not use a bottle meant for a dog or a person

Dog and human products are not interchangeable with cat care. Ask your vet first.

What if a cat swallowed a capsule or tablet?

Treat it as an emergency until a professional says otherwise. Pet NSAID side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, appetite loss, ulcers, and kidney and liver damage (FDA, pain relievers for pets).

FAQ01

Questions about Melonex and cats

Is Melonex safe for kittens?

No. The capsules were never made or tested for kittens or any other animal. Call your vet, who can say what a young cat can have.

Why do vets warn about NSAIDs in cats?

Cats handle these drugs poorly, and FDA says repeated meloxicam doses can cause kidney failure and death in cats. That is why only a vet should decide (FDA, pain relievers for pets).

Who do I call about a poisoned pet?

Call your vet first. The ASPCA poison line, 1-888-426-4435, is another option (ASPCA, top pet poisons). Have the product name and package ready.
