Are Melonex Capsules Vegetarian? The HPMC Shell

Quick answer

Are Melonex capsules vegetarian? The shell is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), a plant-cellulose, non-gelatin material, so it contains no animal gelatin. The label carries no vegetarian or vegan seal, though, and it does not state the source of every ingredient. Ask customer service if strict sourcing matters to you.

Are Melonex capsules vegetarian or made with gelatin?

The Melonex shell is made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, usually shortened to HPMC. It is a plant-cellulose material, and it is not gelatin, which comes from animal collagen.

So the one part many vegetarians ask about is plant-based. The rest of the label is less specific, as the table shows.

What does the label not say about animal-free sourcing?

It does not say the capsules are vegan or vegetarian certified. There is no such seal on the bottle, and the three amino acids are listed without their source.

Magnesium stearate is made from stearic acid, and FDA describes that only as coming from edible sources (21 CFR 184.1440, magnesium stearate). Edible sources can be plant or animal. A proprietary blend also lists its parts but not how they were made (21 CFR 101.36, blends).

Plain reading

No gelatin shell: yes. A full vegan guarantee: not on the label.

How can you confirm a vegetarian diet fits?

Ask the distributor in writing and keep the reply. It takes a few minutes.

  1. Write to customer service

Use [email protected], the address printed on the bottle.

  2. Ask three things

The source of the magnesium stearate, how the amino acids are made, and whether any lab or certifier has confirmed it.

  3. Decide

If the answer is vague, treat the product as unconfirmed.
