Is Melonex a Medication? Supplement vs Drug, Explained

Quick answer

Is Melonex a medication? No. The capsules sold here are labeled a dietary supplement, so FDA does not approve them before sale. They are not meant to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. A different product, the meloxicam drug of the same name, is a prescription medicine.

What makes a product a supplement and not a medication?

The legal class decides it. A dietary supplement is sold as food-like capsules, and FDA does not approve it, or its labeling, before it is marketed (FDA, supplement Q&A). A medication goes through drug review for the disease it names.

Melonex's bottle says "Dietary Supplement" and shows a Supplement Facts box. Its claims are the structure and function kind, with the asterisk and the FDA line (FDA, structure/function claims).

No trial of Melonex exists. Trials cover its ingredients, at grams a day, not at 0.5 to 1 g (Dong 2011, arginine meta-analysis) (Barkhidarian 2019, citrulline meta-analysis).

Why do some people call Melonex a medication?

Because another product has the same name. In South Asia, Melonex is a meloxicam brand, a prescription NSAID with a boxed warning for heart attack, stroke and stomach bleeding (MedlinePlus, meloxicam).

Our capsules contain no meloxicam and are not a painkiller. Neither product is for animals, and a vet should guide any pet question (FDA, pain relievers for pets).

Supplement Facts means a supplement. Anything with an active drug listed is a medicine.

How should a supplement fit with your medicines?

Treat it as an add-on to talk through with your doctor or pharmacist, never a substitute. Arginine may add to blood pressure drugs, nitrates and sildenafil (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine).

Keep taking prescribed medicine as directed. If the capsules still interest you, these are the larger packs.

FAQ01

Questions about Melonex as a medication

Do I need a prescription for Melonex capsules?

No. They are sold as a dietary supplement through the order page, with no prescription step. That also means no medical screening, so ask your doctor if you take medicines.

Has the FDA signed off on Melonex?

No. FDA does not approve dietary supplements before they are sold (FDA, supplement Q&A). The bottle says it was made in an FDA registered facility, which is not approval.

Can Melonex replace my blood pressure pills?

No. It is not a blood pressure medicine, and the ingredients were tested at far higher doses. Never stop prescribed pills on your own.
