Low Blood Pressure and Supplements: Proceed Carefully

Quick answer

A low blood pressure supplement is rarely the right first step. A reading below 90/60 usually has a cause, such as dehydration or a medicine, that a clinician should find. Many popular heart supplements work toward relaxing vessels, which can push readings lower, so check the cause and ask before adding anything.

What counts as low blood pressure?

Low blood pressure, or hypotension, is a reading below 90/60 mm Hg (NHLBI, low blood pressure). Many people feel nothing. Others get dizziness, fainting, blurry vision or fatigue.

Causes include dehydration, blood loss, heart problems and some medicines (NHLBI, low blood pressure).

Call 911

Cold, sweaty skin, rapid breathing, bluish skin or a weak, fast pulse can signal shock (NHLBI, low blood pressure).

Is a low blood pressure supplement a good idea?

A supplement for low blood pressure is not a good idea without a diagnosis. The cause decides the fix, and a capsule cannot repair dehydration or a drug side effect. Most heart supplements are studied for the opposite problem.

Trial findings for pressure. Averages, not promises.
SupplementTrial finding
L-arginineAbout 5.39/2.66 mm Hg lower at 4-24 g a day (Dong 2011, arginine meta-analysis)
L-citrullineAbout 4.1 mm Hg lower systolic at 3-9 g a day (Barkhidarian 2019, citrulline meta-analysis)
Beet nitrate4.4 mm Hg lower systolic, short trials (Siervo 2013, nitrate meta-analysis)

Where does Melonex fit if your pressure runs low?

It does not fit well. Melonex holds L-citrulline malate and two forms of L-arginine, and both feed nitric oxide, which relaxes vessel muscle. Arginine may drop pressure too low with pressure drugs or nitrates (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine).

The label tells people with a known medical condition to ask a physician first. No trial of Melonex exists.

What should you do first about low readings?

Find the cause with a clinician. Bring your readings and a full list of medicines and supplements (NIH ODS, What You Need to Know).

  • Log readings at the same time daily.
  • Ask if a current medicine could be the cause.

Keep taking prescribed medicine and never change a dose on your own.

Want to see the capsules anyway?

If your readings are normal and your doctor agrees, these are the larger packs.

FAQ01

Melonex questions people ask

Can supplements raise low blood pressure?

No supplement is established for raising it. The fix depends on the cause, such as fluids for dehydration or a medicine change by your prescriber (NHLBI, low blood pressure).

Is L-arginine safe with low blood pressure?

Arginine may push pressure lower, especially with pressure drugs, nitrates or sildenafil (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine). Ask a doctor first.

When is low blood pressure an emergency?

Call 911 for cold, sweaty skin, rapid breathing, bluish skin or a weak, rapid pulse. Fainting needs prompt care (NHLBI, low blood pressure).
