Is Melonex an NSAID? Only the Meloxicam Version Is

Quick answer

Is Melonex an NSAID? The meloxicam drug sold under that name is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Melonex capsules are not: they are a dietary supplement of citrulline and arginine, with no meloxicam and no other NSAID. Check the ingredient panel, and ask a doctor if you are unsure.

What does NSAID mean, and is Melonex one?

NSAID stands for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Meloxicam is one, and a medicine called Melonex in some countries is built on it. Melonex capsules are not.

FDA labeling for meloxicam carries a boxed warning: NSAIDs other than aspirin may raise the risk of heart attack or stroke and can cause ulcers or bleeding in the stomach or intestine (MedlinePlus, meloxicam). The capsules have no such warning because they hold no such drug.

Why do people search for Melonex as an NSAID?

Because two products share one name. The meloxicam brand is sold as tablets, injections and suspensions, for people and for animals, and its listings appear beside ours.

A search for the NSAID can lead to a supplement shop, and the reverse. Neither reader gets what they came for.

How do you confirm a product is not an NSAID?

Read the ingredient panel and look for an active ingredient. Names such as meloxicam, ibuprofen, naproxen or aspirin mark an NSAID. A Supplement Facts panel with only amino acids does not.

  • Supplement Facts on the bottle means a dietary supplement
  • A drug panel with an active ingredient means a medicine
  • No panel, no maker, no phone number: do not take it
Keep taking prescribed medicine

If you take an NSAID for pain, do not stop it for a supplement. Arginine also interacts with several drugs (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine), so tell your pharmacist what you take.

FAQ01

Melonex questions people ask

Can I take Melonex capsules with an NSAID?

Ask your doctor or pharmacist. The label advises a physician visit for anyone with a medical condition, and arginine can interact with some drugs.

Does Melonex have the stomach risks of an NSAID?

The capsules carry no NSAID boxed warning. Arginine can still cause nausea, bloating or abdominal pain in some people (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine).

Is the Melonex NSAID safe for pets?

Ask a vet. Pet NSAIDs can harm the stomach, kidneys and liver, and no pet should get human supplements or drugs without that advice.
